Climate Overview

In July, the average temperature in Port-Au-Prince in July is very hot at 30 °C (86 °F). Afternoons can be severely hot with average high temperatures reaching 35 °C (95 °F).

Hurricane season stretches from August to October, and many days are humid with considerable rainfall.

We recommend planning your travel wardrobe around casual, practical, and comfortable clothing.  Items that can be layered will provide you with maximum comfort and flexibility.


Clothing

  • Comfortable walking shoes 

  • Sandals with ankle straps

  • Light rain jacket

  • Light layers 

  • Warm layers for cooler conditions

  • At least one outfit appropriate for beach/water activities

  • Sweater or cardigan

  • Sun hat/baseball cap

  • Swimsuit

  • Rain hat and/or travel umbrella

  • Moisturizing lotion/ lip balm

  • A supply of prescription drugs/copy of the prescription itself (using the generic name)

  • Over‐the-­counter medicine for common ailments such as upset stomach or colds

  • Minor first aid kit including analgesic, Band-­Aids, and antibiotic ointment
